The Lights On Afterschool Program pick up times are changing this year! Workshops start at 4:15 and after that time, students will be released at 4:45 and again at 5:15. Don't forget our annual Back to School Cookout is tomorrow, August 3rd, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Cafetorium. There will be giveaways, prize registrations, free hot dogs, bus rides will be available for preschoolers, and students will be able to visit their classroom. A performance by the cheerleaders will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Dome. Weather permitting the Inflatables and National Night Out will be located in the parking lot behind the CTE Building next to the football field and the helicopter will be on the football field. The varsity baseball team had an unforgettable season, achieving remarkable milestones and showcasing their talent and dedication to the game. With a final record of 16-8, the team's hard work paid off as they ended the season with the well-deserved title of both conference and sectional champions! The season began with a strong start, and the team quickly established their dominance in the PLAC. Their outstanding performance led them to become undefeated in conference games. In addition to this, the team built an 11-game win streak. These victories not only showcased their skills but also demonstrated their ability to work together as a cohesive unit. However, their success didn't stop there. They continued to excel and made history by securing the first-ever baseball sectional title in Perry Central history. In route to this, the team knocked out both 2A ranked #1 Forest Park and 2A ranked #8 North Posey. These achievements were a testament to their relentless determination and perseverance throughout the season. The players' commitment to never giving up, grinding every at-bat, every defensive play, and every inning of the game paid off in the most rewarding way possible. One of the key factors contributing to the team's success in sectional play was their exponential growth in team chemistry. The players developed a strong bond, supporting and motivating each other both on and off the field. This unity and camaraderie played a significant role in their ability to perform at their best during crucial moments in games. The team's strategy revolved around keeping games close, giving themselves a chance for a big inning at the plate. By executing this game plan effectively, they were able to create opportunities for themselves and maximize their chances of success. Throughout the season, the team exhibited an unwavering mental fight and determination. Their never-give-up attitude and relentless work ethic were inspiring to witness. Coach Jason Hubert stated, “As a coach I will never forget this season. The JV baseball team had an impressive season, finishing with a final record of 11-5. The team's hard work and dedication paid off, resulting in several memorable moments and notable victories. One of the standout games of the season was the matchup against Corydon Central. Heading into the final inning with a 2-4 deficit, the team displayed incredible resilience, rallying to score 7 runs and ultimately securing a thrilling 9-5 victory. Throughout the season, the team consistently improved both at the plate and on defense. Their continuous growth and development were evident in their performances game after game. The success and accomplishments of the varsity team served as a source of motivation. They observed the achievements of their varsity counterparts and used it as fuel to push themselves harder. This drive and determination to emulate the success they witnessed in the varsity team fostered a positive and competitive spirit within the JV team. As the season progressed, the players faced the challenge of stepping up to fill the shoes of the departing senior leaders. One freshman in particular, Dylan Mullis, has a bright future in baseball, as he saw many innings pitching for the varsity. With eight senior players leaving, the team understood the responsibility they had in continuing the legacy of the program. Coach Jason Hubert expressed confidence in the ability of his players to rise to the occasion. He believed that they had the potential to embrace the challenge and excel in their roles. The varsity girls softball team had an eventful and challenging season, finishing with a record of 12-15. Despite facing a tough schedule, the team displayed resilience and a strong work ethic, pushing themselves to their limits to achieve success. The coaches and staff are extremely proud of the players and all they have accomplished. Individual players made significant contributions to the team's performance throughout the season. Maggie Cunningham stood out with an impressive 29 RBIs, showcasing her ability to drive in runs and make an impact on the game. Audra Harbaville demonstrated her speed and agility, leading the team with 8 stolen bases. MaKenna Labhart displayed exceptional batting skills, boasting a remarkable batting average of .418 and an impressive on-base percentage of .480. Both Maggie Cunningham and Makenna Labhart showcased their power at the plate, hitting 3 home runs each. Additionally, Reagan Borden's dedication and hard work led to noticeable improvement, earning her the title of the Most Improved Player. The team started the season by participating in a highly competitive tournament, which played a crucial role in honing their skills and developing a competitive mindset. Although they faced some challenges and experienced ups and downs along the way, the team remained competitive throughout the season. One of the most notable improvements observed throughout the season was the players' ability to excel in multiple positions. Their versatility and adaptability allowed the team to overcome various obstacles and maintain a strong presence on the field. It is worth mentioning that the coaches prioritize not only the development of softball skills but also imparting valuable life lessons to the players. They strived to teach the girls skills that can be applied to everyday situations, fostering personal growth and character development. The team's dedication and sportsmanship were evident in their approach to every game. They played with a tenacious spirit, while simultaneously displaying respect for the umpires and opponents, regardless of the outcome. The junior high boys track team had a successful season, finishing 3rd in the PLAC Conference meet. The team was composed of dedicated and passionate athletes who consistently showed improvement throughout the year. One of the highlights was Reese Litherland's impressive feat, setting a personal record and achieving a 5-minute mile. This accomplishment showcased Reese's determination and hard work. Another standout athlete was Isaiah Latini, who demonstrated he was willing to do whatever it took by stepping outside his comfort zone and excelling in the high jump. Isaiah achieved a personal best of 5'4", a height that is impressive to clear as a junior high jumper. Additionally, the team benefited from the participation of a group of 5th-grade boys who were eager to contribute and participate in various events. Despite their young age, they exhibited true leadership qualities and played a crucial role in the team's success. It was a season filled with growth, as each athlete pushed themselves to surpass their previous performances, setting new personal bests every meet. Coach Schaefer remarked, “It was an honor to guide and mentor these boys. Their dedication and willingness to put in the work for the team was truly inspiring. I have no doubt that their track careers will continue to flourish, and they will develop into outstanding runners, throwers, and overall men. The future looks bright for these talented young athletes.”

The junior high girls’ softball A team had an outstanding season, finishing with a perfect record of 16-0. Under the guidance of head coach Josh Craney, the team showcased its talent and determination, securing significant victories over notable opponents such as Tell City and Heritage Hills. Rory Craney was a force to be reckoned with on the mound, pitching 62 innings and facing 274 batters. She demonstrated her skill with an impressive 124 strikeouts, limiting opponents to a batting average of just .108. The team boasted a remarkable lineup, with six players maintaining batting averages above .400 throughout the season. Ava Labhart and Rory Craney led the charge, both finishing with an impressive average of .516. Cadence Cash made notable progress, moving up to achieve the second-highest average on the team at .452. Bella Bryant (.448), Jeri Craney (.439), and Rylee Parr (.419) also contributed significantly to the team's offensive success. Rylee Parr and Jeri Craney tied for the most hits, each tallying 18 throughout the season. Bella Bryant led the team in runs batted in (RBIs), driving in 19 runs. Masen Labhart and Bella Bryant both hit one home run, showcasing their power at the plate. Emalee Lawalin proved to be fearless at the plate, leading the team in getting hit by pitches, taking 10 for the team. Masen Labhart exhibited exceptional discipline at the plate, ending the season with zero strikeouts. Despite facing challenging opponents, the girls remained calm, cool, and collected, approaching each game with a professional attitude and determination to succeed. Beyond their achievements on the field, the team shared memorable moments throughout the season. Emalee Lawalin and Ava Labhart engaged in a friendly competition for the most times being hit by a pitch, with Emalee ultimately earning the "Black and Blue Award" for her resilience. At some point, the team adopted a small plastic dinosaur as its mascot, which accompanied them to various ball fields, becoming a cherished symbol of their unity and spirit. The Perry Central Junior High Girls Softball Team B Team also had an impressive season, finishing with a commendable record of 8 wins and 6 losses. Throughout the season, the team exhibited growth, perseverance, and a strong work ethic, promising a bright future for the program. Three players stood out with batting averages above .400. Jayci Zorn led the team with an exceptional .625 average, demonstrating her skill and consistency at the plate. Paisley James followed closely with a solid .417 average, while Kali Craney contributed significantly with a .400 average. Both Jayci Zorn and Paisley James shared the honor of most hits on the team, recording 10 hits each throughout the season. Paisley James also stood out as a run producer, leading the team in RBIs with 9. Ella Underhill showcased exceptional discipline at the plate, recording the fewest strikeouts with just 1. Stella Richey and Kali Craney tied for the most times being hit by a pitch with 5 each, showing their dedication and willingness to do whatever it takes to support the team. The team's most improved player was Kadence Troutman, who showed tremendous growth throughout the season. Her commitment to improvement and hard work made a significant impact on the team's performance. Notable victories for the B Team came against Forest Park and Heritage Hills, demonstrating the team’s ability to compete against stiff competition and close out important wins. The B Team's progress throughout the season was evident, as they grew both individually and collectively. Their commitment to hard work and continuous improvement promises a bright future for the team in the coming years. With their dedication and perseverance, the teams have laid a solid foundation for success, and their efforts will undoubtedly pay off in the seasons to come. Coach Craney voiced, "All the coaches couldn't be more proud of all the hard work and dedication that this group of girls has put in over the years, not just this season. They have always been a motivated, easy to coach team that we will miss alot but are excited to see what they can accomplish in high school ball!"

The Perry County Health Department is hosting a Back to School Immunization Bash on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Health Department at 3214 Tell Street, Tell City. Routine immunizations are required for entry into Kindergarten, 6th and 12th grades. They will have door prizes and school supplies to give away to all children who are vaccinated! They will also have an Immunization Clinic on for the Back To School Night on Thursday, August 3rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m at the Health Department in Tell City.
