Earlier this month our 6th,7th, and 8th grade AVID students visited Ivy Tech in Sellersburg and IU Southeast in New Albany. They were able to tour both campuses and learn what each place has to offer.
The next day Paoli AVID students came to PC and the students met to learn about each other, they discussed what they like about AVID and what they still want to learn and then built gingerbread houses. The students had a great two days!

Construction students turned their classroom into a hub of innovation, mastering skilled trades through the construction of a modular home for Habitat for Humanity. Sixth grader Emery Klem after passing all lessons on her pathway and iReady lessons throughout 8th grade, Emery has been working on independent studies. With a little direction from Mrs. Woznicki, Mrs. Lynch, and Mr. Bo Gibson, she researched black holes, put together a slideshow with a demonstration of how a black hole forms, and presented to the sciences classes this past week. Emery is interested in becoming an astrophysicist.

The 3rd and 4th-grade football team had an outstanding season, concluding with an impressive 8-2 record and securing the title of PLAC tournament champions. Throughout the year, the team exhibited remarkable cohesion and embraced a team-first attitude, creating an environment of unity and support. In a parallel storyline to the 5th and 6th-grade team, the 3rd and 4th graders showcased their resilience by avenging regular-season losses during the tournament. Victories against West Washington and Paoli in the championship game highlighted the team's growth and determination. With the spirited backing of Commodore Nation throughout the season, especially during the championship game, the team found themselves energized and ready to face each challenge. The support became a driving force, creating an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation before every game. For many players, this marked their first year in football, yet they swiftly grasped the challenges of the game and demonstrated a remarkable drive to win and improve. The coaches expressed immense pride in the team's achievements, emphasizing not only their on-field success but also their camaraderie and celebration of each other's accomplishments.

I am also grateful for the coaches who volunteered their time to help make this team what it was and for the families of the players for their support."

The season took an intriguing turn when the team faced a solid opponent in Paoli, a conference rival at every level of Perry Central football. This game resulted in their sole loss. However, this setback became a catalyst for growth. Both players and coaches embraced the opportunity to learn from the defeat, studying game film with purpose. Armed with newfound insights, the coaching staff devised a strategic game plan for the upcoming PLAC Tournament. The players, demonstrating remarkable commitment, embraced rigorous practice sessions focused on fundamental drills and refining key plays that led to the team's success. Their collective focus on defense became a defining element of their preparation. As the team progressed through the tournament, the players were granted their wish, as they earned a chance to redeem their loss against Paoli in the championship game. Fueled by the lessons learned and their efforts in practice, the athletes faced Paoli in a nail-biting showdown that came down to the wire. In a testament to their perseverance, the team emerged victorious, securing the PLAC Championship Tournament in a thrilling fashion. The sheer elation expressed by players, coaches, and the passionate fan base added an emotional layer to the triumph, creating indelible memories that will resonate for years to come. Coach Ty Yeager voiced, “The team enjoyed unanimous support from a sea of green, creating a vibrant and uplifting atmosphere throughout the season.” This season will be remembered not only for the victories on the field but also for the unity, hard work, and resilience that defined this extraordinary group of young athletes.
The boys junior high cross country team displayed resilience throughout the season, finishing with a record of 29-33. A notable achievement was their 2nd-place finish in the PLAC championship. Individual successes were highlighted with PLAC All-Conference recognitions for Holden Hubert (2nd), Trey Guillaume (5th), Ryder Polk (7th), and Ben Beckman (9th). Coach Guillaume emphasized the team's mantra stating, "Hard work pays off." The team continually improved with each meet, showcasing their dedication in both practice and performance. The boys' 2nd-place finish and the girls' championship win at the PLAC Conference meet were testaments to their hard work. Sportsmanship was a standout aspect, with runners consistently displaying respect and admiration to their teammates. The season was memorable for the collective improvement of the team, demonstrating the rewards of hard work and accomplishment, especially in a sport like cross country that requires a plethora of dedication and perseverance.
The girls junior high cross country team had an outstanding season, boasting a record of 42-19. Their crowning achievement was becoming PLAC Champs, securing a first-place finish at the meet. Individual successes were recognized with All-Conference honors for Olivia Goffinet (1st), Isabelle Butler (3rd), Piper Labhart (7th), and Emery Klem (8th). Coach Guillaume echoed the sentiment of hard work paying off, emphasizing the team's continual improvement with each meet. The girls' triumphant victory at the PLAC Conference meet showcased their dedication in both practice and competition. Sportsmanship was a notable quality, as the runners consistently displayed respect and congratulations to their fellow competitors. The seasons were highlighted by the collective improvement of the team, proving that dedication and hard work in cross country can lead to significant accomplishments, especially when convincing kids to take on the challenge of a sport.
