The 8th-grade boys' basketball team had a season to remember. They exceeded expectations, winning an impressive 14 games and two of the three regular-season tournaments. This accomplishment made this season one of the most successful in this group’s history. One of the unique characteristics of this team was its size. They were undersized compared to most of their opponents, which meant they had to rely on their quickness, agility, and effort on the court. The boys understood that they had to play with a sense of urgency and give their all every time they took the floor. This mindset helped them to overcome their size disadvantage and compete at a high level. In addition to their effort, this group of boys had exceptional basketball IQ. They understood and ran their sets, playing smart basketball. This intelligence and understanding of the game made them a tough team to defend, and it showed in their successful season. The success of this team is a testament to the promising future of the basketball program. With this group of talented young men, the team is poised for continued success. Coach David Litherland voiced, “Our basketball program has a bright future with these young men, this group of boys is also one of the smartest teams I have ever been around. It has been an honor to coach them.”

The 8th-grade girls' basketball team had a spectacular season, finishing with a record of 21-1. They had several big wins throughout the season, including victories over conference and county rivals, as well as a huge overtime win. The team's biggest accomplishment came at the Jasper Tourney where they came victorious down the stretch against the likes of Forest Park, Jasper, and Heritage Hills in the championship game. The team had a well-rounded stat sheet, with different players stepping up each game to contribute to the team's success. The team's hunger to learn and improve was a defining characteristic of the season. They never became satisfied with their success and always sought ways to get better. Coach Schraner remarked, “We can never be satisfied… we have to continue to find ways to get better.” The team showed significant improvement in on-ball defense, understanding individual roles, and confidence on the court. The season was not without its funny moments, including one instance where Masen Labhart made a bad pass that caused coach Schraner to melt to the floor during the championship game against Heritage Hills, creating a moment that the girls will likely still remember and laugh about in 10 years. The team demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the season, staying humble and representing Perry Central well. Coach Trent Schraner said, “I’ll never forget the hard work and hunger to learn that the girls showed during the season. This group of young ladies was a joy to lead and be around every day.”

The 7th-grade girls’ basketball team had a challenging season with a record of 4-20. However, despite the losses, they had many positive experiences and made great progress. One of the season's highlights was the girls’ performance in the Perry Central Tourney, where they finished runner-up. In their first game, they defeated county rival Tell City. Throughout the season, the entire team progressed and grew in their skills and knowledge of the game. They learned important aspects of basketball such as court awareness, help defense, remaining focused, reading the defense, looking for and creating shots, and improved on their overall fundamental skills. Although they started the season a little behind fundamentally, these girls showed a great desire to learn, and they were always moving forward and applying what they learned. The biggest change that the team experienced from the beginning of the season to the end was playing more as a team. During their first game, there wasn't much communication or awareness on the court, but the girls learned how to help each other on offense and defense. They also had a lot of talks about focus and tenacity, which paid off in their final game with a win against Mitchell. They saw that things really come together when they hustle and work together as a team. One of the outstanding traits of this team was their composure and sportsmanship. No matter how physical the game got, they remained composed and respectful of the other team. They always helped up the opposing players who got knocked down, showing great sportsmanship and character. One of the most memorable experiences of the season was when the team went to Assembly Hall to watch the IU women's team beat Iowa. This was a great opportunity for the girls to experience the excitement of college basketball and see some of the best female college basketball players in the country. Coach Harpenau stated, “Although we started the season struggling with fundamentals, these girls showed a desire to learn and they were always moving forward and applying what they learned. They never gave up and I am extremely proud of them for that.”
