This past Tuesday Perry Central welcomed AVID classroom students in grades 6th-8th to a Parent Night. Students were able to share their learning throughout this experience and eat supper with their families! Earlier this week 4th and 5th grade students learned about Holi, also known as Festival of Colors in art class. This is a Hindu holiday that is celebrated at the onset of spring. This year during recess the students celebrated with their own version of the throwing of colors on March 25th. The kids loved this! #good2bgreen

This season, the 5th grade basketball team’s journey was filled with both challenges and triumphs. The A team concluded their season with a 9-5 record and the B team finished at 3-5-1. The season was marked by several noteworthy victories, with standout wins against Lincoln Trail, Huntingburg, and two wins against Cedar Crest. What truly defined this team, however, wasn't just the numbers on the scoreboard but their understanding of collective effort. Statistical leaders fluctuated game by game, highlighting the team's commitment to playing as a cohesive unit rather than relying on individual performances. Reflecting on the season, the coaches emphasized the growth and maturation of the players. Many started the season with minimal experience in organized basketball but ended it with a profound understanding of teamwork and strategy. Sportsmanship was another key aspect of the team. Regardless of the outcome, the players consistently exhibited respect for their opponents, embodying the values instilled by their coaches. Amidst the serious moments, there were also humorous instances that added color to the season. One unforgettable memory involved a player showing up to a game wearing crocs after forgetting his basketball shoes at home. He wanted to play no matter what, even if that meant playing in his crocs. However, another player graciously lent him a pair, this leading to the player having a stellar game, “in someone else’s shoes.” As the season drew to a close, the 5th grade boys basketball team emerged not only as better players but also as better individuals, embodying the spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance. With a solid foundation laid, they look forward to building upon their experiences and achievements next year as they enter middle school.
Coach Derek LaMar voiced, “The team grew up quite a bit this year. Coming in, we had several kids that hadn't played organized ball before. Working together, they were able to achieve success. They learned a lot about the game of basketball and how it requires all 5 guys to compete on the floor. We're looking forward to building on the foundation from this year.”
The 6th grade boys basketball team had a remarkable season, marked by outstanding achievements and unforgettable moments. These young athletes demonstrated not only their skill on the court but also their unwavering commitment to playing for each other as teammates. From the very beginning, this team showcased a level support that is rare to find at their age. Whether it was cheering on a hot-handed shooter, helping a fallen teammate back onto their feet, or applauding a well-executed pass, their unity was evident in every game they played. With a record of 12-1 for the A team and a perfect 10-0 for the B team, it's clear that their hard work and determination greatly paid off. Although this group has had no problem finding themselves in the win column multiple times in the past years, this season brought tremendous improvements, a testament to the dedication and effort put in by every member of the team. One of the most remarkable aspects of this team was their coachability. From day one, they bought into their coaches’ strategies and embraced the challenge of implementing varsity-level plays. Their ability to excel at such a young age speaks volumes about their talent and willingness to learn and grow as athletes. But beyond their success on the court, what truly set this team apart was their togetherness and positive attitude. They celebrated victories as a team and lifted each other up during the tough patches, creating a supportive environment that brought both personal and team growth. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the incredible support of the parents and grandparents who drove them to games, cheered them on from the sidelines, and stood by their side every step of the way. Their unwavering support was the backbone of this team's success. As the season comes to a close, the 6th grade boys basketball team can look back with pride on all they have accomplished. They have not only achieved success on the court but also formed lifelong bonds that will continue to inspire them in the years to come. Congratulations to these young athletes on a season to remember!

Perry Central Advanced Manufacturing students were excited to partner with Best Home Furnishings to learn about manufacturing chairs. Employees visited students over several days and talked about the importance of safety, process standards, quality assurance and students learned about the company! Students worked in teams and produced a chair that Best Home Furnishings is donating to Perry Central! We appreciate their partnership!

Congratulations to our PC Spanish academic team, they brought home second place after being tied for first and going through several tie-breaker questions yesterday at the University of Southern Indiana World Languages & Cultures Academic Language Bowl. The Spanish 4 video team earned third place honors. After the competition, they got to use their language skills, the server was so surprised that they all spoke Spanish! #goodbgreen
Sources of Strength Team presented some activities this week in all the Elementary to highlight strengths such as positive friendships, healthy activities, and listening skills. The lower elementary classes were entertained with a fun game of Simon Says while the upper elementary classes participated in the Cup game. 5th and 6th graders competed against and supported each other in the Cup game as a grade level with members of our admin team (Jennifer Mitchell competed in the 6th grade), our resource officer, Levi Clark, and even a special guest, Albert Einstein on his birthday 3-14.
Maggie Taylor, Molly Briggeman, Ty Hess and Madison Kelly’s Global Marketing team placed third at the state BPA contest, qualifying them for the National Competition on May 10th in Chicago!

The 8th-grade girls basketball team had a memorable season filled with growth, determination, and teamwork. Despite finishing with a record of 7-9, the team showcased resilience and character throughout the season. One of the highlights of the season was a thrilling victory over Tell City, clinching the win by just one point. Additionally, the team secured significant conference wins against Crawford County, Mitchell, and Springs Valley, demonstrating their competitive spirit and ability to rise to the occasion when it mattered most. Under the guidance of their coach Deidra Harpenau, the girls showed remarkable progress. Dickerson remarked, “I had the pleasure of coaching these girls two years in a row and it was so fun to see the growth when comparing this year to last year. Our numbers may have been small, but these girls made up for that with their competitiveness, dedication, and drive.” Throughout the season, the girls exhibited an increase in confidence, as well as implementing new skills and strategies with each game. Their growing court awareness and ability to adapt both offensively and defensively were evident signs of their development and maturity as players. One of the most significant strides made by the team was their understanding of individual roles and how they contribute to the team's success. By embracing their roles and working together cohesively, the girls capitalized on their strengths to elevate the team's performance. As they reflect on their accomplishments, the girls can take pride in their progress and look forward to building on their successes in the future as they join the high school team.
Natural Resources students and FFA members participated in the Envirothon contest earlier this week. They placed 2nd and 3rd out of 13 teams and advanced to the state contest. Great job PC students. They are happy with their bling! #good2bgreen
